| 4½ C | quaker oats, uncooked |
| 1 C | packed brown sugar |
| ¾ C | margarine, melted |
| ½ C | dark corn syrup |
| 1 Tbsp | vanilla |
| ½ tsp | salt |
| 12oz pkg | semi-sweet chocolate chips |
| 2 Tbsp | shortening |
| ⅔ C | chopped nuts |
Directions
- Preheat oven to 450. Grease 15x10 pan.
- Combine oats, sugar, margarine, corn syrup, vanilla, salt. Mix well.
- Firmly press into pan.
- Bake 12 min, or until mixture is brown and bubbly.
- Cool completely.
- In saucepan over low heat, melt chocolate and shortening, stirring constantly until smooth.
- Or, put in glass in microwave, stirring every 30 sec.
- Spread over oat base, sprinkle with nuts.
- Chill until set. Cut into bars.
